The Grand Canyon boasts miles of beautiful paved road and gorgeous bicycle greenways along the rim. Hermit Road has one of America's most scenic bike paths. The seven-mile route goes along the Canyon's rim from South Rim Village to Hermits Rest.
Bicycles are subject to the same traffic rules as automobiles. Use extreme caution when riding on park roads! Shoulders are narrow and vehicle traffic is heavy. There are no designated biking lanes and always ride single file with the flow of traffic. Bicyclists share the road with vehicles and are encouraged to wear bright colors and a helmet. Bicyclists should pull to the right shoulder and dismount when large vehicles are attempting to pass.
Bicycles are prohibited inside the Grand Canyon (below the rim), and along any paved or unpaved portion of the Canyon Rim Trail. Bicycles are permitted on all paved and unpaved park roads.
To mountain bike near the Grand Canyon, you'll need to cross out of Grand Canyon National Park into the Kaibab National Forest, which borders the park on both rims. |
