Arriving At The Grand Canyon By RV

Reservations are strongly recommended for camping
within the Grand Canyon National Park
from March 1 through mid-November.

Taking an RV trip calls for advanced planning to guarantee a successful journey. Plan your RV trip at least six months ahead of time to ensure campground availability.

Reservations for the campgrounds are accepted this far in advance, but you may need to plan some of the other activities well before this time. The famous mule rides to the bottom of the Grand Canyon are typically booked 13 months ahead of time, and some of the rafting excursions (commercial or non-commercial) are reserved one or two years ahead.

RV Camping within the Grand Canyon National Park

Trailer Village is the only Recreational Vehicle (RV) facility inside of Grand Canyon National Park. Trailer Village offers pull-through paved sites with full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet in length. Trailer Village is conveniently located near the Canyon Village Market Place and Camper Services, and is just a half a mile from the canyon rim.

Each site features a picnic table, barbecue grill, 30 and 50 amp electrical service, cable TV and water and sewage hook-ups. Camper Services is nearby, offering coin-operated showers, laundry facilities, dump station, potable water, vending machines and telephones. Trailer Village is open year round. Reservations for Trailer Village are made through Xanterra Parks & Resorts®.

Mather Campground has over 300 sites, is open year-round and operated by the National Park Service. It is located located within the busy Grand Canyon Village, which includes the historic district, lodges, shuttle buses, visitor center, great view points, Hopi House, and the El Tovar Hotel.

There is tent and RV camping, with a maximum length of 30 foot trailer or RV. There are no RV hook-ups at Mat her Campground. Accessible campsites and rest rooms are available. Pets are allowed, but must be leashed at all times, and may not be left unattended.

Wood and charcoal fires permitted in provided campsite grills only. No gathering of down wood, wood may be purchased at the general store. Laundry and showers located near the campground for a fee.

NPS Desert View Campground (50 sites) is at the east entrance to the park
25 miles to the east of Grand Canyon Village. Most sites are sized to accommodate tents or smaller RV's or Travel Trailers.

It is first-come, first-served only. No reservations are accepted. There are no RV hook-ups at Desert View. There is a 30 foot trailer or RV maximum. Limit of six persons; two tents; two-vehicles or one RV/Travel Trailer per site.

NPS North Rim Campground at 8.316 feet, is operated by the National Park Service. It offers tent and RV camping, accessible campsites and restrooms are available. There are no hook-ups, however there is a dump station within the campground.

Pets are allowed, but must be leashed at all times, and may not be left unattended. Pets are only allowed on the Bridle Path. There is no kennel on the North Rim.

Wood and charcoal fires are only permitted in provided campsite grills. No gathering of down wood, wood may be purchased at the general store. A coin operated laundry and showers, operated by Forever Resorts, are located at the entrance to the campground.

Camping Near The Grand Canyon
